Do You Really Need a Vocal Coach?

Welcome to February.

"Do I really need a vocal coach? Why pay when there's so much free content online?"

I hear this question all the time from performers and public speakers…and I get it.

There is so much great, free online content —free tutorials, warm-ups, technique breakdowns. YouTube is an amazing resource.

But there comes a point when online tutorials can't take you any further.

Here are three signs it's time to move beyond YouTube and work with a professional coach:

1. You're watching videos and doing exercises, but not improving.

You've tried every warm-up and technique tutorial, but nothing's clicking. You're stuck, unsure what to try next.

2. You keep hitting the same wall.

There's one thing—a note, a style, performance anxiety—you can't break through alone. No matter what video you watch, it's not shifting.

3. The stakes are rising.

You have real goals now, and they matter. An audition. A recording. Putting yourself out there. Every day spent guessing is a day not getting closer.

Here's the thing: YouTube can't see YOU or hear YOUR voice. It can't give you personalized feedback on what's actually holding you back or how to fix it.

Without that, you waste time and emotional energy being frustrated—and it's easy to confuse an ineffective process with "I don't have any talent."

If you're casually curious, free resources are great. Keep learning, keep exploring.
