3 Signs You're Ready to Perform (Even When Your Anxiety Tells You You're Not)

Welcome to March.
"I don't think I'm ready yet."
I hear this all the time from singers and speakers who are preparing for auditions, recordings, presentations, or live performances.
And I get it—there's always one more thing you could practice, one more run-through you could do.
But here's what I've seen after 15+ years of coaching: waiting until you feel "ready" usually means you're waiting too long.
Perfectionism keeps talented people stuck on the sidelines. You have something valuable to share, and there comes a point when the best way to grow is to actually do the thing.
Here are three signs you're ready to perform—even if you don't feel ready:
1. You can get through your material without stopping.
You don't need to be flawless. In fact, imperfections are often when authentic emotion comes out—and that's when your audience leans in and is fully present with you.
Performances aren't about perfection—they're about connection.
2. You know what you want to communicate.
Whether it's a song, a pitch, or a keynote—if you're clear on the message or emotion you want to convey, you're ready. Technique matters, but meaning matters more.
3. You want to share it, even though you're scared.
Ready doesn't mean no anxiety. It means the pull to perform is stronger than the pull to hide. And if you have that feeling, even if masked by anxiety, you know.
When you catch yourself thinking "I want to try this," even with the nerves—that's your signal.
